Where Hitchcock filmed "The Birds"
Now a private residence (please do not disturb the residents), the old Potter School in the town of Bodega, California has become a favorite destination spot as a result of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film “The Birds”. The school building is the actual schoolhouse that was depicted in the scene where the children are running down the hill. It remains the only recognizable landmark in the area from the filming. The monkey bars, however, are long gone but... the birds are still here!
The Potter School was built in 1873, and dedicated on October 31. It was built on land donated by Sheriff Samuel Potter, sheriff of Sonoma County, and constructed from locally harvested ancient redwoods.
